Bygone Book Club Schedule Updates

Grand Island, Neb. – The popular local history book club and discussion group Bygone Book Club has two scheduling changes to announce. The January meeting, originally scheduled for Saturday, January 13, 2024 has been postponed to Sunday, January 28 at 1:30 P.M. at the Grand Island Public Library. January’s book for discussion is “World War II Nebraska,” by Melissa Amateis. Stephanie Crosby of the Hall County Historical Society will lead the discussion.

In March, the Bygone Book Club will now meet on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11 A.M. In honor of Women’s History Month, held every year in March, this meeting of the Bygone Book Club will meet at the historic Hargis House, across the street from the Grand Island Public Library, at 1109 W 2nd Street.
The March book for discussion will be “New Women in the Old West,” by Winifred Gallagher. Michelle Setlik of the Hall County Historical Society will lead the discussion. Following the book discussion, there will be tours of the Hargis House offered by the Grand Island Women’s Club. The Hall County Historical Society will also offer a program discussing notable historic women from the region. The full reading list of the 2023-2024 Bygone Book Club is available at

The Bygone Book Club is a partnership between the Grand Island Public Library and the Hall County Historical Society. Local historians lead monthly discussions of books featuring Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska, or regional history. Membership in the book club is monthly; participants can choose which month/book is of interest to them and do not need to commit to the entire program series.

The Grand Island Public Library, 1124 W. Second St., is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
