Dear GIPS Families:
We want to make you aware of an incident that was reported at Walnut Middle School, which led to an investigation by law enforcement and has resulted in the arrest of a student.
A male student at Walnut has been arrested following the alleged sexual assault of a female Walnut student on school grounds. This alleged incident was reported by a student, and we thank that student for coming forward. While the alleged incident was reported on April 30, it allegedly occurred on April 22. We responded swiftly when we were made aware of the report.
GIPS takes all criminal allegations seriously and is cooperating with the Grand Island Police Department at this time. This is an isolated incident and poses no threat to the school community.
Our top priority is and always will be to keep our students safe. We will continue to work with the impacted families, and will collectively work to ensure our facilities are safe.
We encourage GIPS parents to discuss with students the importance of speaking up if they witness or experience any wrongdoing in and around our community.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we attempt to create the safest possible environment for our students and staff.
